Sister Mary Ann Catherine Wehry, SND May 12, 1929 – September 17, 2024

Martha Catherine was born into the loving family of William and Aurelia Wehry on May 12, 1929. She was the second of three children and the only daughter. She said her parents gave her peace in knowing that they would provide and sacrifice anything for her family. It was a loving childhood. Martha attended Mother of God School, Covington, Kentucky and Notre Dame Academy, graduating in 1947. After graduation, Martha volunteered as a “nursette” at St. Elizabeth Hospital, which sparked her interest in caring for the sick. She attended Villa Madonna College (Thomas More University) for two years in preparation for a B.S. degree. Next, she enrolled in St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. However, this phase of her education was interrupted when she decided to join the Sisters of Notre Dame, knowing that this was God’s plan for her. She entered in 1948 and made her first vows in 1951.

Sister Ann Catherine graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Villa Madonna College; she earned a diploma in nursing from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1954. From 1954–1987, Sister ministered at various times in hospitals in Lynch and Morehead, Kentucky, which were administered by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Sister Ann Catherine was one of the pioneer sisters at the hospital in Lynch. She was then moved to St. Claire Regional Hospital shortly after it opened. In 1981, Sister returned home to St. Joseph Heights where she continued her nursing care at St. Charles Community and Lourdes Hall Infirmary. She went on to serve for fourteen years in charge of health care for the Covington Province.

Sister retired in 2008, then later moved to Lourdes Hall where she continued to share her compassion and great love for her sisters and family. Sister Ann Catherine will be remembered for her unfiltered humor, unexpectedly making us all smile, often leaving us in stitches. Her passion for life inspired us.

Sister Mary Ann Catherine went home to God peacefully on September 17, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William and Joseph. She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will begin at 9:15 AM on Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. Joseph Heights Chapel. The wake service will be held at 10:30 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in the convent cemetery will follow the Mass.

May Sister Mary Ann Catherine now rejoice in the embrace of our good and loving God.
