SHINE Coalition – Coming Together to Support, Honor, Inspire, Nurture, and Empower Women

Thanks to funds raised through SHINE Women’s Summit, the Sisters of Notre Dame have established the SHINE Coalition to bring together organizations whose missions -at least in part- focus on improving the lives of women and their families. Representation to the coalition is open to groups of any faith whose values align with those of SND and have programs that will support, honor, inspire, nurture, and/or empower women in the Northwest Ohio region and beyond.

The Sisters of Notre Dame are a valuable resource of wisdom and experience. Bringing organizations together to share ideas, resources, and manpower paired with guidance from these sisters with lifetimes of experience leading ministries that serve the marginalized will only enhance the work that these groups are doing individually.

Samples of issues the Coalition addresses include human trafficking, food insecurity, abuse, homelessness, education, mentorship, professional development, parenting skills, mental and physical health, and self-esteem. This coalition meets in person and/or virtually every other month and discusses ongoing needs in the community and how to find solutions collaboratively. SND will host an annual women’s summit to share with the community at large the work of the coalition in the past year and announce the goals and vision for the upcoming year.

Population to be Served:
The population to be served by this project is women and women-serving organizations in Toledo and Northwest Ohio. This project strives to serve women of all faiths and backgrounds. From homeless women to young moms looking for guidance to women in search of professional development, this coalition will identify and work toward helping any woman.
