The Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation Office released the following update:

Thank you for your support! On March 11, 2021, Congress passed a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, President of USCCB, “We are grateful this legislation addresses many positive provisions, including unemployment assistance, child and earned income tax enhancements, nutrition funding, vaccine distribution funding, health care funding, housing assistance and international assistance.” Sr. Donna Markham, OP president and CEO of Catholic Charities USA said, “The American Rescue Plan provides important and necessary relief to those who continue to suffer as a result of this pandemic. While no piece of legislation contains everything one might wish, this COVID-19 relief legislation provides critical public funds to families struggling with unemployment, food insecurity and the threat of homelessness. Private charities and philanthropies cannot do it alone. Catholic Charities USA remains committed to working with Congress and the administration to ensure that vulnerable persons and families find the care and support they need during these difficult times.”
