Prayer/Reflection for a Rainy Day

A Lousy Day… Turned Around
Written by: Sister Mary Margaret Droege

I sit on the edge of my bed and announce,
“What a lousy day!
What a lousy day!”
Roaring thunder last night,
Much rain predicted today.
The sky a solid grey,
“What a lousy day!
What a lousy day!”

Suddenly
I imagine God listening.
What does God think of my proclamation?
Eons ago
He proclaimed all he created “Good!”

Who am I
To reverse His declaration
Who am I
To announce
The ultimate evaluation on a day
Because it’s not to my liking?
Are my words
The ultimate declaration of the day?

So,
Sorry, God,
I didn’t mean to offend You
Or be the ultimate evaluator
Of conditions outside my window.
But You have to admit
The outside conditions today
Are generally
Not the favorite of us creatures
Made in Your image and likeness.

So, I’ll live peacefully today
As I don’t have to travel
To be sprinkled or pelted
With those many water drops.

I’ll live peacefully today
And stay inside.
I’ll live peacefully today
Close my shades;
Fill my room with cheerful music;
Use markers and colored pencils;
Do some reading;
Or work a jigsaw puzzle.
My day will be bright
and a smile will be on my face.
