Psalm 139
Written by: Sister Mary Margaret Droege
O Lord, You have probed me
and You know me;
You know when I sit
and when I stand.
You know
my journeys and my rest.
Lord, You know my heart.
You know my most secret thoughts,
my treasured desires.
Even before I speak,
You know the words I will use.
When my spirit soars to the heights,
You accompany me with delight,
When I am in the depths of
discouragement,
Self-pity or loneliness,
Your arms surround me
in a loving embrace.
When I choose darkness,
You come with penetrating light.
When I flee from You,
You pursue with tenderness and
persistence.
You see, You know, You understand
my thoughts, my desires,
my heart’s deepest longings.
These are not strangers to You.
You offer Your love,
Your guidance,
Your very Self.
You entice, You cajole, You invite.
But You never force me to accept You.
Your hands are open;
Your arms are ready to embrace.
Your heart is eager to pour forth love.
I thank You
That I am made in Your image.
I thank You
that each day You offer opportunities
to see Your presence,
to live Your presence,
to be Your presence.
