The Sisters of Notre Dame Prayer Line Ministry is a network of prayer that spans across all four regions: Chardon, California, Covington, and Toledo. Through this ministry, we offer our prayerful support to anyone in need, embracing requests that span from joyful celebrations to moments of deep sorrow. The power of prayer is accessible to all, and the sisters stand ready to pray for you.
Beginning in Chardon, the Prayer Line Ministry has evolved over the years. What began as a phone line for family and collaborators has become an outreach that now includes online prayer requests, making it easier for people worldwide to seek prayer. In Chardon, the ministry is housed in its own dedicated office with a phone line available on Monday through Friday for direct calls, and takes messages after hours and on weekends to ensure no prayer request goes missed. Volunteers from all four regions ensure that prayer requests are answered with devotion.

The online prayer request form on the SND USA website makes submitting intentions convenient. It’s a form accessible to anyone from anywhere, offering the option to choose their home region or to submit requests nationally. Some requesters even choose to direct their prayers to specific sisters. In Chardon, Sr. Lenette Marcello oversees the processing of these requests, ensuring that they are forwarded to the right sister or added to the Prayer Line Book of Intentions in the 3rd-floor prayer space. These requests are carefully recorded by hand, with no personal contact information retained, so that each prayer can be prayed over in confidentiality and trust.
The Prayer Line Ministry spans much more than just a few phone calls. It’s a multi-regional commitment to supporting each other in prayer. Each region—Chardon, California, Covington, and Toledo—has developed unique ways to gather and respond to prayer requests. For instance, in Chardon, the Prayer Intentions Board located outside the chapel allows anyone to post their prayer intentions, which are displayed for up to a month. This handcrafted prayer board serves as a tangible reminder of the power of community prayer. Sisters, employees, and visitors alike are invited to add their intentions.

The origins of the Prayer Line Ministry began in 2006, when the sisters in Assisted Living began dedicating time each day to receive calls and pray for those in need. Starting with just a few sisters and a simple phone line, the ministry expanded in response to the growing number of prayer requests.
Since then, the Prayer Line Ministry has continued to grow in significance, with approximately 81,900 total calls answered over the years. Daily call numbers can vary day to day depending on the issues, holidays, or specific needs of the community. Sisters are ready to pray for requests from people of all backgrounds, nationalities, and faiths, ensuring that no one is alone in their moment of need.
Through both phone and online submissions, the Prayer Line Ministry is a testament to the dedication of the Sisters of Notre Dame in ensuring that no prayer is ever forgotten. The power of this outreach is felt across geographical boundaries, and requests come in from people of all ages and life stages—in moments of joy or in times of crisis. This ministry exemplifies the Sisters of Notre Dame’s belief in the transformative power of prayer.
