Sister Dorthea Marie Arndt, SND
February 4, 1944 – February 25, 2026
Professed August 10, 1973
Dorthea was born on February 4, 1944, in Bellevue, OH. Although she attended and graduated from public school, she became familiar with the Sisters of Notre Dame through religious education at Immaculate Conception Parish. She entered the Notre Dame community in 1970. She received her education at Bowling Green State University and professed her vows as a Sister of Notre Dame in 1973.
Her various teaching and tutoring assignments took her to Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, including 14 years at St. Anthony Catholic School, Temperance, MI and 10 years at St. Paul, Norwalk, OH. She often shared that she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame after being inspired by the teachers who had taught her and she had worked with. Their example sparked her own love for teaching young students and her desire to dedicate her life to her ministry of education.
She was known for her love of laughter and for noticing the beauty and wonders of nature.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Center, 5900 Davis Road, Whitehouse, OH. Sharing of memories, visitation and the eulogy will take place before the funeral Mass.
