Sr. Jean Hoelke Awarded “Bernard Overberg Teacher of Teachers” Award by National Sponsorship and Network Office.

Sister Jean Hoelke (front row, middle) celebrated her Award with fellow SND sisters over the weekend.

Sr. Jean Hoelke was awarded the Bernard Overberg, Teacher of Teachers Award, by the Sisters of Notre Dame Sponsorship Office.  This award recognizes educators in the SND national network who honor Father Bernard Overberg’s legacy as a teacher of teachers. His work had a profound impact on the educational vision and practices of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

On May 22nd a small group of sisters who ministered with Sr. Jean in community leadership, taught with her, or worked on various projects with her, gathered to celebrate and honor Sr. Jean.  As her friends and co-ministers shared memories, the overwhelming consensus was that Sr. Jean was a leader who was always willing to use her gifts for the benefit of others.  Her wisdom, calmness, encouraging words, and selflessness impacted many.

As Sr. Jean commented, to deny the gift is to deny God, the giver of gifts.   Sr. Jean was blessed with many gifts and her life of service and giving is a testament and affirmation of our mission as Sisters of Notre Dame.
