Sister Mary Corese Floyd, SND

August 14, 1930 - June 4, 2026

Born Laura Mae Floyd on August 14, 1930, Sister Mary Corese was taught by the Sisters of Notre Dame at Sacred Heart School in Toledo. After being drawn to religious life in 1952, Sister Corese professed vows and dedicated many years to teaching middle school students in Sandusky, Bellevue and Toledo.

Feeling called to missionary service, she traveled to Papua New Guinea, where she taught at the secondary level in Banz, Fatima and Kumdi from 1962 to 1978. She later served in pastoral ministry in Hagen, Papua New Guinea from 1979 to 1981, accompanying parishioners and sharing her faith in a variety of ways.

Upon returning to Ohio in 1981, Sister Corese resumed her ministry in education, teaching at Mary Immaculate, Ladyfield, Christ the King and Sacred Heart schools in Toledo.

Beyond the classroom, Sister Corese later devoted 23 years to pastoral ministry at St. Michael Parish in Gibsonburg, OH. She faithfully brought Holy Communion to homebound parishioners, where she remembered even the smallest details of their lives. Her many talents included sewing, woodworking, small appliance repair and cooking.

Whether in the classroom, on the mission fields of Papua New Guinea or in parish ministry, she touched countless lives through her faith, compassion and dedication to others.
